i pay in either time (waiting for delivery) or with money (for moving or assembly). When i want something good and i want it moved from point a to point b for me, or if i can move it myself but i don’t want to assemble it, i accept that i have to pay for that convenience. in this case, the concession is that you are responsible for moving your desk from point a (your door, even if it is downstairs) to point b (the room you would like it in).
when you want something fast and cheap, especially with the way the world is, there are concessions that we make. do you want something good, something fast, and/or something cheap? a whole lot of people choose fast and cheap. I'm sorry this is probably not helpful to you and your situation but opening it up downstairs and bringing it up in pieces might be your only option. Then I don't actually have to have all of that garbage inside it's already outside and I just toss it in the dumpster. I have to open it up and bring the pieces in individually, I generally have no one to help me either it takes a little bit but a few trips in and out. You might have to do what I have to do with large boxes of multiple pieces that is left in my carport which is technically my doorstep apparently. I did have success however with deliveries that were quite large they actually brought the items into my house but I had to arrange that with a carrier specifically not Wayfair. Yes unfortunately Wayfair does not have anything to do with the delivery method and if doorstep means the entrance to an apartment building to FedEx or UPS unfortunately that's pretty much as good as it's going to get.
